Meet the Arts Therapist Ruth Wilgress


Ruth Wilgress,
B.A. Arts, A.M.I. Montessori Teacher, REAT, CACPT, OEATA,  Registered Psychotherapist CRPO

Ruth Wilgress is a registered expressive arts therapist and psychotherapist with a private practice working with the focus on children and youth in the west end of Toronto. She is also an A.M.I. Montessori teacher, adult educator, arts facilitator and community resource facilitator.

She holds a B.A. in Arts from McMaster University, and an expressive arts therapy three year diploma from I.S.I.S Toronto, Canada. Ruth is registered with the College of Registered Professional Psychotherapist of Ontario and OEATA.  She is also a trained A.M.I. international primary Montessori teacher (E.C.E. equivalent) and holds adult education credits from University of Manitoba with a focus on transformational learning.

She has worked in the non-for-profit sector working with children, adults and seniors and their families for over 9 years, in the area of mental health and developmental disabilities with various creative approaches, such as play therapy. She has extra training in narrative therapy practices for anxiety and trauma, and integrative treatment techniques for anxiety disorders. She also holds training and experience in suicide prevention, crisis prevention and intervention, understanding aggressive behaviour, cultural competency and is CPR certified.

Ruth has been working part time at Family Service Toronto in the developmental field  for over three years doing community work and does other contract work running workshops with other agencies and senior centres.  She uses her creative approach to support individuals in their self expression, self empowerment, learning, and emotional and cognitive growth.

Ruth runs a private practice in the Junction area of Toronto with the focus on children dealing with a variety of life challenges.
